Our Story
The story of Sophie and Michael began in childhood. They attended the same schools from elementary through high school and both participated in the high school musical Kiss Me Kate. Both spent time at the University of Alaska Southeast and attended the same family friend’s annual 4th of July barbecue nearly every year since childhood. Despite these common tracks, they didn’t actually have a real conversation until July 4th, 2011.
On that fateful day, at the Disdiers’ barbecue, Michael and Sophie spoke to each other. Through this conversation, they discovered a mutual love of old movies, board games, and general tomfoolery. Their love has grown and strengthened with the assistance of Mystery Science Theater 3000, witty banter, around-the-house-serenades, lots of good food, and darned socks.
Michael proposed to Sophie on August 21st, 2014 at a lookout just past the Shrine of Saint Therese. You will pass the proposal site, marked with balloons on the guardrail, on your way to the wedding. Sophie’s engagement ring belonged to Michael’s grandmother Lydia from her marriage to Clifford Partlow in the 1930’s.
